Let's look back: Gen 1, no counter to psychic (the only ghost had a poison dual-type and no good ghost moves, bugs were useless)
Gen 2 on-wards: Dragon, steel and dark were always strong to various degrees, gen 5 saw the rise of fighting types.
Now in Gen 6, we have one counter to the strongest types nowadays: fight, dark and dragon. All you need to cover for is steel - poison has always been useless.
My questions are: Is everyone who DOESN'T include a fairy pokemon in their team an idiot? Will dragons disappear or be a very scarce sight? Will poison start to be a decent type for once? Will fire types be on the rise to counter the indirectly buffed steel types?
