>>49508201How old are you OP? Not criticizng, just curious, its weird someone is interested about something I lived.
As for experiences, I remember getting into a fight because I said Ditto was the strongest pokemon(I assumed it could turn into anything, this was before playing the games) and another kid said it was Dragonite.
Another experience would be the start of what we would eventually know as Gen 2.
So, the game came out first in Japan as you probably know so you already had some info on the Internet(which wasn't used much by 9 year old kids), plus Togepi/DOnphan in the anime, so we used to call them "secret pokemon".
You had "leaks" which had this terrible art based on the sprites.
Some of the magazines and the official sticker album in Argentina(the second one, which mixed GEn 1 and a little of 2) used the japanese names for many, which is why we used Hinoarashi and Waninoko for a bit.
When GS properly released in the West, a new sticker album(the third) was released, now with proper official art and english names, but with one exception. Seems Celebi wasn't officialy revealed yet so the album used the shitty sprite-based artwork for Celebi(not pictured and I don't have it on hand). Took me more than a decade to stop thinking about that shit when thinking about CElebi.
