Spells sound like an easy to impliment HM substitute. The broom stick idea was genuinely upsetting, maybe a Totem sized Murkrow is the field effect and as backstory is the PC’s odd pet that can only reach places you have told it stories of and his/her Mom is an archiac Hex Maniac that uses a crow’s face recognition as an alarm/home-defense and it stays behind to protect her while you are away.
