In short, it's all symbolism for "I am THIS far away from being male" because society really has caught the man bad syndrome and is mobilizing its men to tear down everything our current society has built.
Shit goes a lot deeper, but obsession with making humanity perfect is one of the reasons why we've gone down such a bad path. A more primal reason is because providing and protecting for women is what men are hard-coded to do and someone who can object to doing that under any circumstance (or not well enough) is socially executed, if not just actually killed. So much for playing with the idea of "what if women always had it worse and we utilized perceived victimhood to our advantage"
