The Darkest Day happening 3000 years ago gave me hope, too. I also saw from the datamine that Light of Ruin made it in even though other moves didn't. There was also the Melmetal bullshit.
I don't think anyone is a dumbass for believing we'd go there, I think they're naive for believing GameFreak would actually deliver. Hell, even in the final game there are swimmers on Route 8 that mention how they swim to and from Kalos just like people do from the UK to France in real life. Like it or not, the signs were there, down to them alluding to "the best Pokemon games" at the reveal knowing full well HGSS is seen with that title because it has two regions.
