The games are ambiented in the ancient Unova v/s Kalos war. You begin in a little town in the frontier and you start your adventure as the only way you can be free of the conflict.
As you get more involved in the story, the Unova and Kalos war is really just an scenario of a bigger war between the two box legendaries. Then you realize that war of the box legendaries is really just a scenario for an even bigger world between two cosmic entities.
