Most kids who get into AG-JN ended up watching OS at some point because it's always on TV/Netflix. OS is the binding season that ties 99% of the fanbase together.
You may be angry that a one off OS anime character appearing has more weight than a companion you personally spent 3-4 seasons with, but its the facts. Pidgeot, Butterfree, and Primeape being acknowledged in the flashback with Pikachu created more buzz than any Journeys cameo. The balloon popping, smog gusting bird of 0 wins is more popular than your anime waifu.
