>>46034094>>46034114OP here, really glad to see this is generating some thoughtful discussion.
Without singling anybody out I'd like to respond broadly to a couple arguments I'm seeing:
>dark-type is unrelated to literal nightObjectively dumber than anything I've said, you will get btfo if you make this argument. Don't bother.
>light can't mean both literal and abstract lightnessIt can. Dark-type is just as flexible, and as I've seen mentioned, Psychic-type also groups together some very loose concepts. Fairy also lacks a concrete definition.
I'm happy to concede that Umbreon was poison and that the two clearly went through a number of changes. I can't offer a timeline for when I think Light was abandoned, but it could have been before or after the betas, honestly.
My most concrete argument hinges on the unusual rules for normal/dark/psychic interactions in the beta, and the unusual pokemon that received normal/psychic secondary typing. Aside from Twinz or Girafarig, I would like to see an argument for why Sunflora was psychic type, and why that was dropped.
