A bit surprising, I personally liked it since when you went on your journey, your pokemon right by you made the journey feel a bit less lonely and having them out gave them it a bit more realism and companionship as opposed to just keeping them locked in their pokeballs until you send them out to battle or be your HM slave. It would be better if they expanded on pokemons dialogue and things they could be capable of doing in the overworld though, that's a given.
