>>25247838It doesn't seem too unrealistic. There are clouds and all but you can kinda make sense of it, and personally I don't think it's to separate them because they're actually further away. If anything, it makes sense to have at least Hoenn close to Johto because of Alto Mare. Sinnoh is a bit weird because of the angle but it's obviously more north than at first glance. Kalos is basically irl France according to the anime, but this is coming from the same show with 5 Scandinavias (BW season), so I'm not so sure if it was for anything but cinematic effect. Either way we can faithfully say that the Pokemon regions are at least somewhat related to the places they were based off of on Earth.
