Like, the ones that are the size of a person or smaller seem to be around the right size. It's only ever the really huge pokemon that get scaled down in battle.
In the Wild Area though, they do seem to have their accurate sizes, so it seems to be more of a design choice on GF's part.
Maybe they feel like if they had a Wailord the proper size that it would throw off the cinematic balance of the fight? Or maybe they wanted to use the same camera angles for all fights and having some pokemon WAY bigger than their trainers would throw off those shot compositions.
