I only ever played my copy, competed against everyone else who had sapphire, I only SAW emerald with just one kid so I have no fucking idea what the fuck Emerald did better than Ruby - But I fucking LOVED ruby.
Enjoying Omega and whatever. Secret Bases ho! They even made streetpasses share your bases to other people which was exactly what I wanted and given how hard they dropped streetpass potential with X/Y I was sure they really would not do it.

I enjoy the 3D engine, system, moves, etc. Gen 6 introduced.
But I did not like X and Y itself - really didn't hold my interest and after getting mewtwo I had done NOTHING on the X cartridge.
Ruby was 2nd pokemon game I played and one I played absolutely the most. I still love about everything about Ruby even if good chunk of that is blind nostalgia or whatever.
Combining PkMn Region that I fucking love with the engine that I at least appreciate. So that makes it at least more enjoyable package than X.
I still hate the fucking menu sounds in this game though. Fuck this spongebob squeaky shit.
