Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh were easily my favorite regions do the how diverse they were and there was a lot of shit to explore. I guess kanto had some of those aspects too. The routes going into towns were great.
Unova and Kalos felt very linear and not challenging at all. You would literally walk in a straight line and end up in the next town. The routes were very boring.
I hope whatever next gen they do some older region aspects. I loved Gen 5 and 6, it just didn't feel as fun and mysterious as starting out in johto Hoenn or sinnoh.
