I used to always feel weird about gen 3's Pokemon because of the lack of cross gen evolutions compared to all the other japan regions, which made it feel disconnected to the other's, but now that we've gotten these rejected designs from gen 1 and gen 2, I can now see that actually quite a few of rejected designs made it one way or another in Hoenn, as if they were focusing more on finishing up unused concepts over continuing with their previous work, and that makes me feel much better about it.
Though you could say a lot of these comparisons are reaching and I'm a total schizo, but you can definitely see at least a few comparisons between them, for example the first being a split evolution line with an obvious Huntail and with the underbite too, with the name Grotesque which is similar to Gorebyss.
The electric tigers are obviously reaching though, the closest comparison is the Shinx line, and there are quite a few of these that look like Sinnoh mons too, but not as many. Glalie is more there to show off it's also a two stage line, the comparison is specially about Snorunt since they both have the small round hands, bright dot eyes, and wearing something for warmth, black faces peeking out of them.
