I've noticed that a lot of head directors in GameFreak seem to make better writers than actually putting that writing into motion with a video game. There is a difference between text in a book and text from moment to moment used to convey motions in a game, but the problem is I don't think they realize that writing for games is super-different than anything else. Kind of a fucking shame, but it explains why they stop you every 8 minutes for a 4 minute dialogue sequence.
