>>52074295Oh yeah, Nintendo as a whole have a very hostile attitude towards modding, fangames, and third-party/grassroots competitive tournaments. If you aren't playing the game in the way that aligns with the vision for their IP, they will strike you down.
What I bet a lot of people don't know in relation to Nuzlockes though is that these two people who have YouTube channel/Twitch stream (not sure exactly, only saw the clip) were pitching to Nintendo execs to have a short video on their social accounts promoting the Nuzlocke challenge. You know, a fun little community spotlight to farm some interactions. The reaction from the boardroom was so intensely hostile that they were worried they were gonna get fired on the spot. So yeah, Nintendo/Game Freak/The Pokémon Company/whatever actively HATES the Nuzlocke trend on the internet. Maybe it's because it uses the imagery of Pokémon "dying", or maybe it's simply because you're taking a casual game and making it "hardcore", or maybe just because you're not playing the game the "normal way", but for whatever the reason they despise it.
If Game Freak could remove the ability for players to do a Nuzlocke run without totally kneecapping their game, they 100% would do it. Which is really funny, since the Nuzlocke trend is really big on the Internet and it would be *so easy* for Nintendo to do some half-assed promotional thing revolving around Nuzlockes to cash in on it, but they literally cannot bring themselves to do it.
