>For one, I was speaking purely about design, not the statsThat's fine but I was using that as proof that the monkeys have so many similarities, which why I also mentioned their names. These elements, along with the designs, are also important in giving the monkeys more individuality.
> And if having 3 different Pokemon that similiar bothers youYes that is the problem, they are all similar and that hurts them a lot, because if we just had panpour and simipour, then at least they'd just be a water monkey (which we hadn't had before Gen 5). Imagine if we had a Fire, Water and Grass Chimchar in Gen 4 (ignoring the fact that Chimchar is a starter), then the Fire Chimchar would suddenly feel less special. You could also use the argument that pansear is just another fire monkey when we already have Chimchar. This could be equally applied to the Lake Guardians and the Genies before they received their Therian Formes, people criticise them because they look too similar each other. Why would you like Landorus more than Thundurus or Tornadus when they look almost identical?
>I always though of them as sorta being like Gen Vs answer to Eevee, except each with their own line. That raises the question why people don't complain about Eeveelutions being similar to each other. I would say that it's because Eevee can turn into a lot of different evolutions which is fascinating because you obtain the Eeveelutions through different means, plus it makes sense why they all look similar = they're all derived from the same base pokémon. The Elemental Monkeys are supposedly different species and it's not like you can obtain any one of the three monkeys when you breed one of the parents, unlike when you breed a Volbeat or an Illumise and the offspring can either be Volbeat or Illumise.
