They knew most players would recognize the strategy of a Cynthia team, so they used misdirection to give the player a false win where the player throws everything at the sixth Pokémon, setting up the legendary sweep of your team. The goal was to make most players lose the first time. Once you know what is coming, it’s not that hard to overcome.
