To me a truly schizophrenic grabbag of design would be a chimera-like Pokemon with clashing colors. While I might find a pokemon ugly, for the life of me I can't think of a single one with an irredeemably bad design. Sigilyph comes to mind, but even its design has reasoning behind it. I'm not a fan of Diggersby, Rhyperior, or Conkeldurr either but I understand where their designs are coming from.
You can overdescribe Donphan's design all you want, but it only makes your idea of a good design seem more stunted.
