I'm pretty heated right now, which has nothing to do with the temperature of the current gym, but everything to do with my own idiocy.
We spent several hours EV training the team, defeating Spindas for Special Attack and Zubats in Meteor Falls for Speed, and I figured we'd manage this gym just fine. I lead with Tuckahoe, thinking that she'll most likely breeze through this battle ezpz. Flannery's Slugmas go down to one Magnitude each, but then in comes her Torkoal. I knew Tuckahoe would tank her Overheat just fine, and being immune to Attract was nice, but I had forgotten how much Body Slam is able to do. First Magnitude is a 4, bummer, Body Slam does a decent chunk of damage. Second Magnitude...another 4, Body Slam does even more damage. Third Magnitude rolls a 6, which is not enough to KO as it brings Torkoal into red, but on the third Body Slam it finally manages to paralyze. I know a heal is coming, so a Magnitude would be safe, but I panic and switch into Bomb Dot Com. It's not like she could do much, but I figured with the King's Rock she was holding she might be able to flinchhax her way into some damage. Turns out, no, Bullet Seed not only does pitiful damage, but also fails to land a flinch, Torkoal landing a crit Body Slam for good measure. At this point I'm thinking about using the one heal I have available, and I figure that since Bomb Dot Com can live one more non-crit Body Slam that I should heal Tuckahoe so that she can clinch the victory. I thankfully had some Full Restores courtesy of the Zigzagang, fully healing Tuckahoe which should be just enough to get us the vict-
Torkoal used Overheat
Just reading it made a pit form in my stomach, I had completely forgotten about it in my panic, and I had to watch as the mon I had spent hours grinding up to max Speed and Special Attack 2 EVs at a time die because of my idiocy. I sent in Tuckahoe, which thankfully landed a Magnitude 9 and blew that damn turtle away for good.
...so that was pretty disappointing
