The designs are also not only well drawn, but they seemed like something no fan would draw seriously. Incineroar looks like a Fire/Fighting-type, which no fan would do except as a joke. No one would believe, or want to believe it. Same with Primarina being such obvious waifubait. It feels like no competent fan would draw that without it being an obvious joke.
The fact that half the thread was shit like "these would be the worst starters ever if they were real", rather than the usual "these are awesome and the real starters will probably be way worse" we usually get with fake starter evolutions solidified this for me. It felt more like the shit Gamefreak would do, rather than what a fan would design.
Come Popplio being revealed to know Disarming Voice and I did start shitposting about how they were totally real.
