>>39079753I don't mind bad graphics, but what I do mind is a bad artstyle. Nothing in SS looks cohesive, the water's attempting to look realistic while every other texture surrounding it is cartoonish in contrast.
The same can be said for the tall grass, which is far too saturated compared to everything around it.
The low quality texture of the trees are objectively terrible by today's standards, but what makes it worse is that it sticks out like a sore thumb compared to the relatively acceptable texture quality of the player character right next to it.
This is why there's such an adverse reaction to it. Pokemon graphics weren't as good as their contemporaries, but they always had an unique and cohesive artstyle throughout each of their games prior to Gen 8, which implies that GF placed at least a little bit of effort into those games.
In these games however, GF clearly placed no thought in their designs, going so far as to design the most bland and formulaic starters as possible, whose sole purpose is to squeeze as much money as they can from the Pokemon cash cow.
