You're put on a racetrack and have to make your way through as fast as possible (read; in as few steps as possible). There's a fake shortcut that taking wastes time, as well as a maze toward the end to eat up steps.
You actually do lose and get booted if you use all 500 steps, but if you make it through it's scripted so you get second place. You're given one of each stat increase item and a Big Pearl, and the Scythers congratulate you and tell you the reason they attacked Butterfree was because they were pestering her for a race and she attacked them first. This sounds like bullshit but I'll let it slide just because the hack actually had a quality area.
I checked back there and you can only do the race once, but it was pretty cool for what it was.
