Ash's Pikachu had his moments of course, particulary the mandatory "Pikachu gets separate from Ash and has to work on his own to get back" episode of the season, but even that revolved around him getting back to being Ash's shoulderpad.
Cap is so independent we didn't even know Friede really was his trainer until we got their flashback. He doesn't rely on Friede to move all the time, he has a job, he has agency, he can spend entire episodes without seeing him just fine, he's his own member of the Rising Voltacklers, he's a free spirit.
I honeslty wish they made a special Pikachu form like they did in gen 7 and 8, but for the cap. We already have Ash cap Pikachu, gimme "cap cap Pikachu"
