I feel like people only say this because they've heard everyone else say it so now it's just the common belief.Regigigas is 160 attack, higher than a lot of megas, on top of 110/110/110 defenses, which lets it take neutral hits better than Mega Venusaur. AND it has base 100 speed, which is more than enough when you can learn Rock Polish, one part of its well rounded movepool. Because of all this combined, an uninhibited Regigigas can accomplish all sorts of things; Band, Scarf, bulky attacking sets, support, etc.
You wouldn't need much to support it either, just something that can take the Fighting types it can't compete with and a cleric like Sylveon to keep it healthy.

There's a good 3-4 options for the last slot in such a set. As I said before, 328 speed is enough for a scarf and more than enough for RP.
