Remember when Tajiri said in an interview a long time ago that "westerners" had a perception of the franchise closer to what he envisioned than japanese kids, because most people thought of Ash and Pikachu TOGETHER when talking about Pokemon in the west, the connection and friendship between pokemon and trainer specifically, while the kids over at Japan only cared about the mascots. Incredible how things have completely flipped. Nowadays when you think of pokemon, 50% of the west fanbase are furries, while over in Japan 50% are waifu/husbandofags.
