megas will always be better than dynamax because many megas are substantially different from their base forms. they might have different abilities or stat spreads, and they can't hold items (except for mega fug but he's mega banned) there are reasons to not mega evolve your pokemon, or to hold off on doing so until later in the battle. mega sableye is the best example of this, as its mega form loses the Prankster ability which can gimp your setup if you evolve it too early.
by contrast, Dynamax is just "i make big pokemon with big ach pee and also my moves have busted secondary effects" and you could argue that there is strategy to making the most out of Dynamax but if the only way to fuck up a strategy is to use it at the wrong time, and fucking it up in this way still forces your opponent to stall for three turns until it wears off, then it's a bad mechanic.
