Most of the gen 8 pokemon just come off as generic rpg critters to me. I don't know what it takes for a design to read as a pokemon to me but gen 8 isn't setting off any of the right flags in my mind when I look at them.
Ironically though I really appreciate the coal pokemon. They work really well for me. That final evo especially seriously just looks like any old gen 1 kaijumon. When I say they should just design new pokemon to look like old pokemon those are pretty much spot on what I want.
