Mega emboar is the biggest improvement over the base design but even then that can't compete against feraligatr's sheer popularity. Even I hate mega feraligatr but I still choose it anyways, I only mega it when absolutely necessary (Water/Dragon is a god tier typing) and prefer to mega my other mons.
