>>35759522The problem is that Pokemon has no competion, absolutely none. YW tried and failed, Digimon was never really a player, there have been heaps and heaps of smaller series all trying the same thing and all of them meeting the same fate while Pokemon continued to go on.
Now we're at the point where there are 2 different generations of people who have grown up on the series and (as evidenced by the damage control going on in /vp/) people who will fight and die on a hill in the name of Pokemon regardless of how good or bad the Pokemon games actually are.
What I don't understand is Gamefreak's adamant refusal to improve though. Mario and Zelda both go out of their way to create genre defining masterpieces despite the fact that they don't have much competition. Meanwhile Gamefreak is going to sell a low effort cashgrab and sell just as much if not more than Mario and Zelda. How did it come to this? Why is Gamefreak, as a dev studio, so awful?
