What's XY&Z20 Elle vs Serena about?
The way I see it: No, she's not going to win the Master Class. Episode 20 will be a some sort of "scouting" episode. Elle would like Serena to be Yashio's apprentice, but she must first test her to see how much she's grown, if she has what's needed. That's where Elle vs. Serena starts. Yashio at the end either extends "the offer" to train Serena after she's finished with Kalos, or indeed says "she's still lacking something" (cue the preview scene) and must find it by traveling through the rest of Kalos in search of it. At the end of the XY series, she'll find that thing she's lacking and indeed become Yashio's apprentice, with Elle's blessing.
