>>36081323I like the idea, OP. It's good to see /vp/ actually talk about the competitive game and not just nostalgia and what pokemon they want to fuck.
I'll throw my 2 cents in on my old nigga eggy. As much as I love him, the years have not been kind. Even if the pool of pokemon were to snap back to 151, Exeggutor has too many flaws to compete. It unfortunately does not have the bulk to make its Harvest gimmicky sets viable as it'll get 2hkoed by every attacker worth it's salt. With EVs not working like they did in Gen 1, it has to focus on SpA and lose a lot of bulk in the process. Sleep powder is a nice asset but with only 55 base speed, it is outclassed by other users like Venusaur who has similar bulk but 80 base speed and access to Chlorophyll as well. Its Special coverage is similarly facing fierce competition from a mon I assume will regain its God status, Alakazam, who has access to Energy Ball and Psychic. Because there are no Drizzle mons and only a couple of hail team potential members in the pool of available mons, I think Sun will be the only weather team showing up in any capacity, with Zard Y and Ninetales both being available to set as well as ample Chlorophyll users, but even then, I don't think Exeggutor will see much play for aforementioned reasons and competition from Venusaur.
Alolan Exeggutor might fair a little better due to not having as many direct competitors (it would be one of three dragon types if I'm not forgetting someone) but I'm also not seeing a lot of use for it. Without Chlorophyll, it'll either need trick room support (which I don't foresee being as popular without access to fatties like Cresselia or the almost staple for TR teams in Magearna) and without it, it will only be able to do what it does in current USUM metagame, which is run a specs or Z-move set and hit hard a couple times before dying.
I don't think Exeggutor will see any OU play. Thoughts?
