The Bug Catching competition and to a very slightly lesser extent the Safari zone and when I say Safari zone I mean what the original safari zone did: 30 balls, x amount of steps or time and you can't battle the pokemon- you can only throw mud, food or a ball at them and hope for the best with all of this balanced by the fact the area has rare Pokemon not found elsewhere in the region.
They just seemed like amazing little pieces of interactivity and I'm genuinely shocked they didn't become staples to the games in their own right.
