It's the first game in the series with an art director that isn't Japanese. The guy they chose is white AND English (the most unapologetic kind of white). And the guys in charge of stuff like shooting down ideas and making sure stuff isn't unmarketable are Japanese, so they might not get the nuance or caricatures depicted by a white English guy in his art or in the art he chooses. Okay, so that aside:
Are these racist or am I just seeing shit here? Because in ONE generation we've got a Gorilla with a drum AND an ape with an afro and giant lips. I feel like this is intentional, and I feel like a white English guy is just the kind of person to slip stuff like this under the noses of unaware Japanese guys. GF got in a ton of trouble with the NAACP in first gen for Jynx, this shit makes it feel like even if he wasn't doing it intentionally, Turner was at least more comfortable doing it because he hadn't learned the lesson everyone else in GF learned in the 90s. I'm just trying to figure this shit out.
