Gen 7 embodies a-lot of the issues people have with modern games. Its loaded with tutorials and interruptions that break up the flow of gameplay, and make you feel like you're on a guided tour instead of an adventure. It's major redeeming quality is the story between Lusamine and her kids. But that was largely written out of USUM and replaced with some alien plotline that wasn't even fully developed.

Changing Lusamine's character completely breaks the originally narrative. If the Ultra Recon Squad is working for her, then she doesn't need to sacrifice Nebby to make a wormhole. If she's just trying to "save the world" then the story of her kids running from abuse no longer works. Her issues with Lillie are dealt with off-screen, and she just goes back to being a normal person by the end. Lillie's arc basically doesn't exist anymore, because there was no trauma to overcome. It's like they wanted to make Lusamine into an anti-hero or something, but they didn't bother to change the rest of the story to accommodate that.

For what? Ultra Changes may have a few good fights, but it's still plagued by SM's slow pacing, forced tutorials, "advice" from Rotom Dex, and worse multiplayer than XY and ORAS.

The best thing about USUM is that Iwao went on to reinvent the series.

I dunno why anyone thinks this after Ultra Changes. USUM was a terrible game, and in some ways worse than the original.

The only thing I'd even want to add to XY anyway was the BW2 Easy/Challenge Mode settings at the start menu. The game already has great online, a massive Pokedex, post-game rematches, and probably the best version of Battle Tower.
