The energy earned enables me to mega evolve them daily to hurry up to max level, my M-Lopunny will his max level on Sunday which'll help a bit with XP farming.
Current buddy is my shiny Gyarados, caught 15/14/14 from a Magikarp raid many years ago.
With the excitement method, I can best-buddy Pokémon in about 2 weeks pretty easily.
