Masuda:In the end, as with any game, it's the places where you struggle to get the bugs out that are the most memorable. In the case of this game, my last decision with it was working with the link battle system.
Morimoto: Originally, we didn't conceive the battle system being based on linking so we had to make some touches.

-Now, about this game, please tell us what are its keywords.
Tajiri:We thought a lot about giving you reasons to link and trade. The hints were taken from my personal experiences collecting cards and seals as a kid. Such as trading rare things we wanted with each other. So we thought what might be a good result of trading and as a result, there are 4 species of pokemon that evolve upon being traded. A feeling much like”shusseuo”(a japanese concept of changing your name as you grow up, google up 出世魚 if you want to know more) if you will. For instance, the bug you caught yourself eventually develops into a butterfly, but in other cases by trading, in other words, letting it go, makes it evolve. I didn't only want people trading rare things but lots of things, as people wouldn't want to let go of the rare ones.
