But at the same time I think it's blatently clear that Pokemon isn't balanced if you take it at face value. I guess in some kind of ideal world smogon would be better as a community so that it could be more balanced for those who don't enjoy playing doubles. I'm also somewhat guilty of like the alternative metagames since I enjoy the idea of monotype even if it is ludicruously imbalanced. I also think the idea of tiers certainly isn't an awful one. Being able to take a shitmon and fight other similar level pokemon with it, rather than getting demolished by a primal or something, is good on paper but Game Freak's powercreep certainly isn't helping things in that regard. My confusion was more about people who disliked the idea of a tier system and some rulings rather than Smogon as a full on community so I didn't consider just how bad they are on a more personal side rather than their balance attempts.
