The next expansion will inherently be more rare and possibly sought after because those who decide not to renew will have a dry spell. We may see some cool new deck compositions and actual variety, but it may require a lot of the newer cards to enable.
Worse that can happen is the next set isn't as good, and you're not missing much anyway unless they time lock card packs from appearing again. If they do, most of us already have multiple decks created from just free play. I may be missing one or two key mons, but for the most part I have enough cards for multiple compositions if I substitute out some filler mons here and there.
