Claydol might've been modeled Celesteela that got to Earth through naturally occurring ultra wormholes. It has a pointy head, detachable arms that fire beams, and it's fat. This'd be a retroactive connection though in terms of connecting two pokemon, so not everything'd fit nicely. The rays that brought them to life could've also been the energy given off from the wormholes, or the light that necrozma gives off traveling through dimensions. It does change things that are in close proximity to tears in ultra space. Ala totems.
>The ancient people who made it apparently modeled it after something that descended from the sky. It fires beams from both arms.
>An ancient clay figurine that came to life as a Pokémon from exposure to a mysterious ray of light.
Just a side note since it's from the anime, but the celesteela from there sort of fits really well with contacting and influencing ancient people. The celesteela there also came from a naturally occurring wormhole. It was in the distant past though, and some villagers found it and passed down a story that was sort of a mix between the Tale of the Bamboo Cutter and a pg version of The Color Out of Space. It lay dormant underground for 300 years before being unearthed by Sophocles and friends who thought it was just an ancient pokemon. Then it took a day or two to seemingly absorb moonlight before it had enough energy to nearly burn down a forest and fly into space.
