No console has seen three pokémon gens and gen 8 is coming kind of late into Switch's life. But if you factor in how long the Switch is supposed to last and how generations have been becoming shorter, gen 10 could land just about the next console is to be released soon. Which is a bit of an awkward spot but it's exactly what happened to gen 7.
However, if Nintendo's next console doesn't take a significantly longer time to be released than past ones, gen 10 would definitely come out when the next console is already out in stores. And that's probably a spot they don't want to find themselves into, as at least one more mainline title has to come out for the generation and that one definitely would have to be released on the newer console.
