The lukerwarm finale makes me somberly realize my expectations for the show really were misguided. As it turns out, MPM is exactly what the entire Ashnime was about, this the producers are correct, and the finale is accurate. It's just that what got people hooked up for so long, the everlasting debacles about Ash getting badges, battling leagues, losing leagues over and over, capturing cool and strong pokémon was never the point. All that simply put Ash in a trail for a goal. Becoming Alola Champion or World Champion did not change him significantly. Heck, you may even say him becoming a better trainer didn't matter so much since back in OS he was already doing "Pokémon Master" stuff, albeit less experienced.
I guess it's a little dramatic to claim all the battles were pointless and a waste of time, as Ash did learn about and bond with pokémon through them and that's part of being a "Pokémon Master", but I feel for over 1200 episodes the impact it had is a little understated and underexposed in the show. Yeah we saw things like Ash being kinda famous but that's so tiny.
So in the end, the battling, the Leagues, it was all the actual filler. It feels very odd that the demands of the people who watched the show for so long are not what the show was about all along. I don't know, this is an expressive ramble that watching this show was a waste of time.
