Finally having turned 16 years old and of legal age to do a proper Gym challenge, Winston has set out on his own journey against the wishes of his parents. He had no Pokémon to his name, but the day after he ran away, that changed... very quickly.
Winston was soon awoken by a scruffy Deino who'd noticed him on the side of the road and slept next to him to keep herself warm. Now that day had come and both of them were exposed to the elements, the Deino prompted a revelation in the boy: Winston could hear her speak.
He was too startled to reply properly after hearing her first words.

-it didn't matter. By the time Winston got to grips with the situation, he was already being prompted towards Striaton City.
