For example, Pikachu and Pokemon Trainer are Top Tier and every single other rep varies from slightly above/ just average (Greninja, Pichu) to utter shit (Jiggs, Incin, Lucario), but Pichu is used a lot more than Pikachu, and Greninja more than PT.
Likewise, Corrin is decent, but they aren't used because no one cares, not because they suck. Hell, Byleth might be just as mediocre if not worse than Corrin, but they're used a fuckton more. Usage in Smash is always a mix of popularity, recognizability, and viability/fun potential. It's not really correct to say they did a bad job with repping a certain character just because they aren't used a lot.
