Pokemon starts out cool, people grow out of it, later they look back and it's cool again.
B&W came out during a time when a lot of people were in stage 2. Not going to say that Unova doesn't have a lot of issues on it's own, but I think that any Pokemon game coming out during this time would have been subject to extreme scrutiny.
