>>54686657Spiritomb. It was designed specifically to be Cynthia’s lead. It was designed to make you go "WHAT THE FUCK IS THAT" and it does.
The way you obtain it is so weird and not explained that the near entirety of the players will miss it, allowing it to be shown for the first time when Cynthia sends it, without breaking the regional dex rule.
Additionally, it perfectly fits Cynthia’s overall vibe and style, even its cry bends perfectly into the beginning of her battle theme. Cynthia is a mysterious, ungraspable character and so her lead is something you’ve never seen and you don’t know how to hit it super effectively (and then you find out that you can’t). Its pressure ability, while very much overused and a placeholder, was used right there: it perfectly encapsulates what you feel at this moment when Spiritomb is sent out; pressure. Also at least in DP you probably haven’t seen pressure on anything but legendaries up until that point, which only makes Spiritomb scarier when you see this ability triggered by it.
Its high defenses and lack of weaknesses ensues that it will stick around for at least a few turns so you can wonder how to deal a maximum of damage to it.
And of course, just like Cynthia, it’s super cool and badass.
Only problem is, since they still wanted the players to be able to win easily, they gave it shit HP so that even if you do tickle damage you’ll still be able to chip away its health. Additionally, it gets basically no healing moves. Too bad such a good mon has to be so bad competitively.
