The lackluster narrative doesn't even warrant attention compared to the atrocious midgame design. Awful level plateauing from gyms 4-7; only FOUR Pokémon across all 8 Johto gym leaders are actually Gen 2 and other than generic bird and bug Pokémon, there are few viable Gen 2 catches in the wild. The only redeeming factor is the postgame but even then it's just pandering
