The Exp. Share makes it so you don't even have to use more than one pokemon to level up your entire team, and you get it for free before the first gym. You can literally play the whole game only using one pokemon and you will still end up with a team that can easily wreck the elite four, even if you skip as many trainers as you can.

That doesn't change the fact that it's there and it wasn't in the originals.
