I'm a huge nerd when it comes to Pokemon Mystery Dungeon. Even though Rescue Team is the worst in the series (though still good on its own), it pioneered the series and still has a special place in my heart. Explorers improved on what Rescue Team was weak on - namely music, story, gameplay, and convenience (friend areas...). As of right now, Explorers of Sky is my favorite game.
With that said, I went into Gates to Infinity with an open mind. I must say, it IS very good. The story, the characters, the music, all the staples that make Mystery Dungeon what we love is decent. It did have its flaws (what game doesn't? Sky had plenty) like the cramped camera and only doing one mission at a time. Those, however, are technical errors and could easily be fixed. The way I see it, if they just put a little more effort into Gates to Infinity, it would've been a superior title to Explorers of Sky. It was clearly rushed, seeing that X and Y are right around the corner, so it saddens me considering the games were only getting better and better until now.
I'm not going to push my opinion on anyone. Call my taste shit if you want, but from my perspective;
Gates to Infinity=Sky>Time/Darkness>Blue>>>>>>Red
By the way, Colosseum/XD are NOT main-series titles. They were spinoffs on consoles released so players could have easier access to Kanto/Johto Pokemon come 3rd gen. FireRed/LeafGreen made them almost obsolete.
