Its a great hobby because you can play the irl events and travel and meet new people and just have a damn good time.
If you only play the video game for the story and such you aren't prolly gonna have that great time, but if you play the "competitive" formats, especially IRL (you can play them casually too with fun teams/decks and shit like pre-release tournaments) the only thing stopping you from having good time with Pokemon is yourself, not mr.masuda, the bugs or some shitty tree graphics..
